Crime Statistics and Crime Reports
Ohio's law enforcement agencies voluntarily
report their crime statistics to the FBI's Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR)
Program in one of two ways: through summary reporting or incident-based
reporting.
Summary UCR reporting provides basic aggregate
statistics on the Part One crimes of murder, forcible rape, robbery,
aggravated assault, burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, and
arson.
Incident-based reporting (Ohio incident-based reporting is
called OIBRS) provides much more information on the details of the same
crimes as the summary UCR Program, plus other crimes as well. OIBRS is a voluntary crime reporting program in which
Ohio law enforcement agencies can submit crime statistics directly to
the state and federal government in an automated format. This process
has replaced the Summary UCR reporting process in many areas of the
state.

These statistical reports summarize data contained in the FBI's annual publications, with emphasis on Ohio data whenever possible.
Ohio Incident-Based Reporting System (OIBRS) Crime Research Reports
OIBRS data was used to write these reports in order to demonstrate the utility of incident-based reporting.
